Aren’t You All Hired Killers?

This past weekend I was reunited with a comedian whom I can only describe as one of Nietzsche’s penultimate untimely philosophers, Bill Hicks (RIP). It saddens me that I’ve gone so long without availing myself of Hicks’ crazy wisdom, but I thought the frooferah around Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell could use a squeegee moment from our late friend.

Take it away, Bill…

Yeah I dunno, I liked Bill Hicks a lot in high school, but when I saw a DVD of his standup a couple years ago, it struck me that he’s really not terribly insightful or interesting

I loved Hicks in High School and college, I really need to revisit that. The Relentless and Rant in E Minor albums that were eventually put out are killer, though you really need to see him live to get the energy he produces.

I’m not sure if I’d like him if I was coming across him for the first time. And I can’t even imagine him during the age of W.

“Aren’t you all hired killers?”

As insightful as it is to say that folks in the military are mere hired killers, one wonders at the insistence that we have politically correct hired killers. Kinder, gentler, hired killers, perhaps? Maybe we could have hired killers who were more emotionally sensitive to those with different lifestyles?

As speaking truth to power goes, I’ve seen truthier.
