I was going to write a longer post on this, but one interesting consequence of Obama’s decision to escalate the war in Afghanistan (a decision I support, however tentatively) is the ad hoc redrawing of foreign policy battle lines. So you now have a hawkish Republican congressman
arguing for withdrawal/some variant of the Biden “counter-terrorism” strategy while the liberal Center for American Progress
downplays any disagreement with the President’s renewed military commitment.
